We Survived!

18 Jun

A full week later and I’m finally feeling totally recovered.  I cannot express how much fun it was to have all of my best friends in ONE place for three whole days and nights!  Some quick highlights;

My MOH decorated the house with super cute pink things, snacks, grab bags and all sorts of other fun surprises!

Mike sent some presents for me with the girls (shoes, purse, cat card- oh my!)

But wait, there were presents for everyone! YAY

And although I vowed not to wear any bachelorette garb I just had to pose with this (and bring it to the pool for a teeny teeny bit the next day)

Speaking of pools… we had WAY too much fun in the chlorine.  It included wearing an obnoxious shade of Barbie Pink Frosted lipstick

(that ended up on most of our teeth…)

Finally the bridal shower brunch was absolutely amazing.  Three courses of delicious food, bottomless mimosas, pretty girls, embarrassing stories and…. PRESENTS!

(yea, these are grown up presents!  We have already used our Griddler twice this week)

Bachelorette Weekend!

6 Jun

Where has the time gone!?  With invitations stamped and out the door I can finally relax, and what better timing with four days of vacation and fun ahead of me!  I’m beyond excited, as I sit here anxiously slurping my iced coffee.  Five of my best friends fly in this afternoon and tomorrow 10 of us will head to Palm Springs where we will lounge, eat, laugh and yes probably drink (a lot).

BacheloretteParty

I recently had an interesting exchange while out and about;

girl to my right:  “ahh yea, just got back from my bachelorette party- it was insane!”

me: “Oh fun!  Where did you go?”

her: “Vegas, DUH!”

me: (slightly taken aback by being “duh’ed” in a somewhat rude and condescending tone). “Oh, I was only asking because mine is next week.”

her: “Super awesome.  Where?”

me: “In Palm Springs”

her: “LAAAMEEE!” (proceeds to roll her eyes and turn to her friend)

me: (again slightly offended)…

her friend: “Why Palm Springs and not Vegas?”

me: (looking directly at rude outspoken Vegas representative) “Because it’s WAY less trashy….. duh.”

And that’s about as catty as I ever get.  But really that’s my segue into the fact that my MOH has worked tirelessly organizing this soiree and I know she will NOT subject me to ridiculous tiaras, bedazzled phallic headbands or lightup glow shotglass necklaces…(HINT – HINT).

See you all next week, hopefully!

Summer Splurge

30 May

I almost titled this blog, “Spring Splurge” but quickly realized that it is summer people!  The fact that it’s summer is completely intensified working at a school.  The children’s excitement is palpable.  And this summer is jam-packed with truly amazing milestones (wedding, HONEYMOON).

Somehow I’m forgetting that we have hugely expensive nuptials planned and am in a spending mood (outfits for Greece and Italy? Yes please).  And it just so happens that I absolutely LOVE everything in the new Anthropologie catalogue that landed on my front door a few days ago.

Their FAB IN FIVE showcases the following pairings and I want want want.

We are also still in the market for a bed frame/head board and I’m head over heels for these gems;

Oh Anthropologie, thank you for making summer that much more exciting!

Decorating with maps

21 May

Maps are cool, they just are.  I might not know how to use them very well (evidenced by my 8th grade orienteering field trip where my partner and I finished dead last) but I can appreciate their value and aesthetic elements.  We have a large empty wall still in our place and we’ve been grappling over what to do with it.  More mirrors?  lame.  Maybe a large map is what we are missing, or maybe a few maps?

I got the idea off of Pinterest.  I was directed to Inspire Bohemia a pretty fun blog.  Here is some inspiration from this post.

Bride vs. Groom (wedding arguments)

17 May

wedding topper

Throughout this wedding planning process Mike and I have had some pretty fun disagreements.  We see eye to eye on important matters like food but some of the decor elements are a bit lost on him (“how much for linens!?”).   I totally understand. The amount of money spent on ONE day seems absolutely frivolous and dumb.  So as the costs pile up it’s conversations like this that make me laugh/really frustrated;

Me: “So we can have live music for when the guests arrive and for the ceremony.  It’ll be $300, which is a pretty good deal and we need to decide if we want a guitar or a cello.”

Him: “Wait?  $300 for music for an hour?  That’s ridiculous.”

Me: “Yes, but it’s the only time I’ll ever walk down the aisle, hopefully, and I’d really like live pretty music.”

Him: “Well, don’t most people have a DJ for that?”

Me: “No.”

Him: “I don’t see why your brother doesn’t just press play on a boom box, this is dumb.  No.”

-Skip to a few days later…..-

I get an e-mail from him;

“Let’s do this!  (link to m&m website in which you can personalize m&ms as party favors)”

My reply, “This is fun, but it’s $300.”

His reply, “Go ahead and order it, it’s totally worth it!”
